Objects 21 - 25
Proceed to the "Postgässchen",
walk past the "Schauflersturm" (21)
to the "Bleichanlage",a small inner city park with
a pond, formerly used to wash textiles in it
and to bleach them on the grass.
On the right another tower, "Pulverturm" (22)
with cross-shaped loop-wholes;to the left the little
bleaching house, the former caretakers' house.
Another city wall tower, obscured by theformer public
warm baths (1909) (23); in the corner of the city wall
a small gate called "Bleichtürlein";
beside it there was the "Bürgerstraf", a tower-prison.
The tall hipped roof of the hospital building(24)
towers above the city walls, which are
seven meters high here; next to it, the elementary
school building (1823), today it contains apartments.
On the left the former preparatory school,
today a hotel. Straight ahead: the old
riding hall (25)
of the Prussian and later
Bavarian garrison until 1887,now an event
and culture centre (NeuStadtHalle am Schloss).
To the right the former secondary school (academic
high school), now offices of the city administration.
Following the "Jean-Paul-Leseweg" you
will return to the starting point of your tour.
Behind the tour starting point, a modern foot
and bicycle bridge leads over the river "Aisch"
and federal road to the "Riedfeld" district where
the city arose. Note the "Königshofbrunnen"
(= kings' court fountain, 8th century), the
rebuilding of the former St. Wolfgang Franciscan
Monastery. War memorial (1914-18) in the heroic
style of the nineteen-thirties.
Beautiful cycle- and footpaths lead longside the river "Aisch".
